Take the direct ScotRail or LNER train from Perth. It reaches Stirling in about 33 minutes on a typical run, 28 at best, with no change, and on a weekday the departures ran from 05:16 to 22:46, every 15 to 30 minutes or so. The planner showed the train making one stop between Perth and Stirling. It showed no Perth–Stirling route with a change at all, so the direct train is the whole story here.
“Every 15 to 30 minutes or so” hides a few longer waits at Perth. Mornings are busy, with eight Stirling departures between 06:14 and 08:55, and the 06:14 has you in Stirling before seven on a typical run, but the next train found after the 13:37 was the 14:21, and after the 18:34 the 19:18.
The evening is where the spacing matters most. After the 20:14 from Perth the next Stirling train on the weekday timetable we checked was the 21:05, almost an hour later, followed by the 21:23, the 21:42, the 22:23 and finally the 22:46. If you want to be in Stirling before nine, the 20:14 is the latest Perth train we found that does it.
Because the ride itself is so short, the waiting is the bigger part of the trip whenever you miss a train: on the thinner stretches, the wait at Perth for the next Stirling departure can be longer than the 33 minutes on board. For a fixed appointment in Stirling, pick the departure before the one you think you need.
King Street is about 425 metres on foot from Stirling station, so allow roughly seven minutes for the walk once the train from Perth gets in.
